Sample letter to politician
You can use this sample letter as a guide. Personalise the letter by including extra information in the areas marked with 'xxx'.
Dear XXX [insert name of politician here],
I am a member of your constituency and I would like to meet with you to discuss stroke services in XXX [insert name of area/ county].
Stroke services are very important to me personally. XXX [Explain here how you, or members of your family, have been affected by stroke.]
Stroke is also an issue for our whole community. Stroke kills more than 2,000 people a year in Ireland – a higher death toll than from breast cancer, lung cancer and bowel cancer combined. It is also the biggest cause of acquired disability.
I would like to meet with you to discuss the stroke services which are currently available in this area. I am particularly interested in what you are doing to ensure that anyone who has a stroke can get to hospital quickly and receives the services they need to save their lives and prevent them acquiring a disability.
I look forward to your response.
Yours sincerely,
XXX [Include your full name and contact details, including telephone number]
