Support the Action Plan for Neurological Care

Thinking Ahead is a nationwide campaign organised by the the Neurological Alliance of Ireland (NAI) and its members to mobilise the support of the people of Ireland to address the crisis in our neurological care services.NAI Thinking Ahead

The NAI is the national advocacy umbrella for neurological care in Ireland. It represents over 30 organisations working with people with neurological conditions, including the Irish Heart Foundation.

As part of its Thinking Ahead campaign, the NAI has developed a 10 point ACTION PLAN for neurological care.

The plan outlines the steps that the Government urgently needs to take to address the crisis in our neurological care services by:

  1. Committing to protecting and improving neurological care.
  2. Developing and implementing a comprehensive plan for neurological care in the health services.
  3. Protecting funding to charities that are central to Ireland’s neurological care services.
  4. Developing acute neurology services to ensure that people with neurological conditions can be diagnosed and treated as quickly as possible.
  5. Ensuring that people with sudden onset neurological conditions have access to prompt specialist treatment.
  6. Access to specialist rehabilitation for people with neurological conditions.
  7. Co-ordination and development of specialist services in the community to support people with neurological conditions to live as independently as possible.
  8. Ensuring that people with neurological conditions have an effective care plan and access to a key worker or case manager.
  9. Provision of effective support for carers of people with neurological conditions.
  10. Provision of the necessary skilled staffed needed for our neurological care services.

The Thinking Ahead campaign will focus on the need to have this ACTION PLAN adopted by Government and a commitment to implementing it in full.
