About Stroke Action
Stroke Action is the Irish Heat Foundation's campaign end death and disability from acute stroke.
Stroke Action wants better stroke care services and a better stroke helpline for all stroke patients irrespective of their geographical location. We want better services to treat the causes of acute stroke and mini strokes (TIAs) which will help prevent and reduce the incidence of a full-blown stroke.
Stroke Action also wants to improve public knowledge of the signs of stroke through a nationwide F.A.S.T. campaign (Face, Arms, Speech and Time).
There are some 30,000 people living with stroke in Ireland. We want to see an improvement in stroke care for for patients during their life after stroke including the provision of stroke rehabilitation for all stroke survivors . This will go a long way to improving life for those dealing with the effects of a stroke and will help with their stroke recovery.
Stroke Action wants to provide information for stroke patients and their families, explaining what is a stroke, what they can expect during their time in hospital, during their rehabilitation, in their life after stroke and how they can reduce their risk of stroke. For more see our Learn About Stroke section .
Stroke patients and their families can also speak to an Irish Heart Foundation nurse by calling the Irish Heart Foundation’s Heart and Stroke Helpline at 1890 432 787.
For the more information on stroke care read the Irish Heart Foundation's Stroke Guidelines which have been compiled by the Iirish Heart Foundation's Medical Council on Stroke.
